Chaos Pricing & Licensing Overhaul:

What You Need to Know.

Chaos, our trusted technology partner behind industry-leading tools like Enscape, V-Ray, and Corona, is rolling out important changes to its product offerings and pricing structure. These updates affect how new licences are purchased and how existing subscriptions will renew from 1 July 2025. It’s important that you’re aware of what’s changing, how it may affect your current licences, and the options available to you. Taking a few minutes to review this information now will help you plan ahead, avoid unexpected costs, and ensure you continue to get the most value from your Chaos tools.

1. Why the Pricing Changes?

    • Exchange-Rate Driven Increase (from 10 Apr): The South African Rand has weakened vs. the US Dollar, necessitating a ~5% list-price adjustment.
    • VAT Adjustment (from 1 May): Local VAT rises by 0.5%, which will be reflected in all new quotes.
    • M2S Price Adjustment (from 7 May): In line with our transition to Maintenance-to-Subscription, M2S terms will see ~5% increases every two years—2025 is next in the cycle.

Tip: Because renewals can be processed up to 90 days ahead, you can lock in today’s pricing even if your subscription doesn’t expire until mid-year.

2. From Fixed-Machine to Named-User Licenses

What’s a named license?
Unlike a fixed license that ties software to one machine, a named license is bound to a person. That user can install and activate on any device—perfect for remote work, hot-desking, or multi-machine workflows.

Key benefits:

  • Flexibility: One user license, many devices (one active session at a time).
  • Simplified Admin: Buy a block of licenses under your company admin account and assign them as your team grows or shifts.
  • Coexistence with Floating Licenses: Need concurrent-use seats? Floating licenses continue unchanged.

3. Transition Timeline & What to Do Next

Date               Event
Now               Evaluate your team’s usage: fixed vs. floating vs. named.
10 Apr 2025  Deadline to avoid exchange-rate price increase.
1 May 2025   Deadline to avoid VAT adjustment.
6 May 2025   Last day to sidestep M2S price adjustment.
1 July 2025   All fixed-license renewals convert to named licenses.

Action Steps:

  1. Audit your seats. Which users need dedicated access? Who can share floating seats?
  2. Request a quote before the early-renewal windows close.
  3. Plan your migration. We can pre-assign named licenses so your team switches seamlessly at renewal.

4. Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I miss the renewal windows?

You’ll renew at the new list rates. Licensing will still convert, but pricing won’t be grandfathered.

Can I mix named and floating licenses?

Absolutely. Flexibility is at the heart of our licensing model—choose what best fits each user’s workflow.
